Of Mice and Men

Genre: Drama
Author: John Steinbeck

One of the greatest and most loved works to come out of the Depression years, Of Mice and Men established John Steinbeck's reputation as a major American writer two years before the publication of his epic novel The Grapes of Wrath and long before he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Set in 1930s California, this classic twentieth century text focuses on George and Lennie, two itinerant farm workers caught in their country's economic decline. George is fiercely protective of his simple friend, for Lennie is a gentle giant whose enormous strength masks a guileless mind and childlike nature. As they labour from dawn till dusk their shared friendship and impossible dream of "a little piece of land, and chickens" gives them hope.

This powerful dramatic piece of work is directed by Tim Baker, highly acclaimed for his adaptation and staging of The Grapes of Wrath earlier this season and The Way It Was - A new comedy about Wales in Wartime in the mobile theatre.
