ODC Theater presents Walking Distance Dance Festival - SF June 29, 2012

ODC Theater is proud to announce the launch of the Walking Distance Dance Festival - SF, a three-day, fringe-style event involving a dozen dance artists including ODC/Dance, guest artist Maya Dance Theatre from Singapore in its North American debut, past and present ODC Theater artists in residence, as well as SCUBA guest artists from Minneapolis, Seattle, and Philadelphia.

The full line-up includes LEVYdance, inkBoat, KUNST-STOFF, RAWdance, Monique Jenkinson aka Fauxnique, Catherine Galasso, Angharad Davies, Alice Gosti, Gabrielle Revlock, ODC/Dance and Maya Dance.

From June 29 to July 1, 2012 ODC Theater will present a total of 16 performances, activating all of the performance spaces on ODC's two-building campus. The format for the festival originated two years ago in Willits, CA, as part of ODC's InnerState Project, an initiative designed to support regional dance touring. Willits, with three venues in short "walking distance" of one another, was selected as an ideal, if unconventional, setting for a dance festival - and this year ODC returns that energy to its Mission District hub, timing the event to coincide with the conclusion of the annual Dance/USA conference held this summer in San Francisco.

Theater Director Christy Bolingbroke aims to create a veritable "smorgasbord of dance, a chance to offer audiences a wide sampling of dance performance, with something for everyone." And in anticipation of the Dance/USA conference coming to San Francisco, she chose to include this year's SCUBA engagement in WDDF-SF. "For almost a decade, SCUBA has been an annual opportunity to invite artists outside the Bay Area to perform alongside ODC Theater resident artists," says Bolingbroke. "Given the national audience that will be on hand and the selection of past resident artists in the Festival who also represented San Francisco as part of SCUBA, this year's roster of SCUBA artists offers a wonderful addition to the festivities."
