Following its rich tradition since 1990 of presenting new and innovative choreography by emerging choreographers, ODC School and Theater present its 59th Pilot Program entitled "Hello, My Name is...". Through an intimate 11-week session, these artists are mentored in choreography and aspects of self-production. Many past Pilot members have burst onto the Bay Area and national dance scenes; the program provides audiences the rare opportunity to discover artists at a unique point in their careers.

Hello, My Name Is.. both introduces these artists to the community and explores the concepts of encounters, meetings, and relationships. As a dancer for ODC/Dance for the past nine years, Yayoi Kambara needs no introduction to the community. However, she is using Pilot 59 to introduce herself in a newer role as a choreographer, exploring through a series of duets the truths and lies exchanged between people. Charles Slender and Bianca Cabrera, both alumni of the Pilot program, are exploring fresh modes of creating work. Through the use of pure movement, Slender utilizes a new artistic process that is a change from his normally conceptually focused approach. Cabrera uses a seven-person ensemble to whimsically examine story telling, fairy tales, and animation. Amy Lewis, who has worked in the Bay Area for over ten years in both theater and dance, uses two dynamically moving bodies to investigate modernity and the conditions that arise from chaos and dislocation. Jaysi Chander, a multi-disciplinary artist of movement, poetry and music, presents an excerpt from an intercultural kathak dance theater piece that probes belonging, passion, and freedom in a new solo work with live accompaniment from a talented ensemble of musicians and vocalists. Hentyle Yapp, a recent transplant to San Francisco who used to dance in New York and Taipei, engages how fear, in its multiple dimensions from internal doubt to political discourse, affects our bodies and relations to others.
