WEST COAST JAZZ OCTOBOP’S FOURTH RECORDING "VERY EARLY" DEBUTS AT NUMBER 20 ON CMJ JAZZ CHARTS

4th Recording by Bay Area Octet Pays Homage to Henry Mancini and other Jazz Greats: Two CD Launch Parties Announced
SAN JOSE, Calif., (January 23, 2007) Octobop, (www.octobop.com) the popular Bay Area West Coast jazz octet today announced that their latest recording "Very Early" has debuted at number 20 on the CMJ Jazz Charts. The CD is unique mix of original and classic recordings by some of West Coast jazz’ most accomplished artists. Songs include Henry Mancini’s "The Pink Panther" Gerry Mulligan’s "A Ballad" and Mel Torme and Robert Wells classic "Born to be Blue." The CMJ Jazz reporters consist of approximately 160 radio stations nationwide.

Octobop will celebrate the launch of the recordings with two live performances on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Agenda Lounge in San Jose, California and Saturday, February 17 at Savanna Jazz in San Francisco. The release of the CD follows the success of their three previous recordings the Top 40 hit "After Dark", "Night Lights" and "Too Close for Comfort."

"Everywhere we play in and around the Bay Area, we have an overwhelming and emotional response from folks who tell us that West Coast Jazz is alive and well. They bring their old records to our performances and share wonderful memories of great musicians such as Shorty Rogers and Charles Mingus. We want to keep this art form alive and this is our homage."
