This innovative music journalism course aims to engage a breed of writer who has the drive and talent to steer a new anti-churnalism campaign - with our help. With the birth of the web - and free newspapers - the quality of writing (in general) has become increasingly lazy. The cut 'n' pasting of press releases and the technique of emailing interview questions are common-place. But not for much longer... - this course aims to bring back excellent writing and journalism skills, with an unapologetic back-to-basics philosophy.
Taking place on Monday evenings (18:00-21:00 hrs) and spanning 8-weeks, 'Words Up' will be tutored by Lulu Le Vay, journalist, marketing consultant and all round creative hustler (Sleazenation, The Face, i-D, Jockey Slut, Xray, the Guardian Guide, The Independent on Sunday, The Evening Standard and the Observer), and aims to bring back into the media and music industries a wave of new talent whom will not only boast a polished and enviable tool box of skills - but also a 360 view of music journalism within an industry context.
Modules will cover interviews and interview skills; reviewing recorded music and live performance; the power of the word; the pr relationship; beyond music writing; publications and platforms and more and will also offer an impressive selection of industry guest speakers alongside media partners whom will publish the best writers at the end of the course.
Interested? Applicants are requested to submit a 250-word review (release or gig) OR a similar length paragraph explaining why they wish to take part in the course and what they hope to get out of it.
