Objectif Magazine presents New World Creole May 6, 2010

Objectif magazine presents New World Creole, a bold and innovative multidisciplinary arts festival which takes place May 6-9th in Houston, TX. New World Creole brings together emerging artists, filmmakers, musicians, curators, and cultural magazine editors for a broad dialogue about and a celebration of the creole cultural heritage of the Americas and the Caribbean through film, music and symposia. Festival New World Creole takes place in multiple and diverse venues in the city: SHAPE Community Center, Project Row Houses, labotanica, and Rice Media Center.

New World Creole is inspired by an article of the same name published in Objectif magazine, which is a program of Satori Phoenix Arts and Mass Media Organization (SPAMMO). Founded in 2007, SPAMMO is a media arts non-profit organization dedicated to providing multi-media platforms for avant garde artistic vision

Festival presenters include famed New York based artist and two-time Emmy nominated and Sundance alumnus, filmmaker Thomas Allen Harris and independent filmmaker and co-founder of the New York Latino International Film Festival Juan Caceres.

Thursday, May 6:
Objectif Eye on Haiti: A Teach-In (An analysis of Haiti's history, the vibrancy of its culture and the importance of its political struggles, SPAMMO invites community members and university faculty from across the Houston community to provide historical, political, economic and social analysis on the current situation), 6:30pm at SHAPE Center Live Oak.
Friday, May 7:
Experimental Caribbean Short Films program curated by Ayanna Jolivet McCloud , 7pm at Labotanica on Project Row Houses campus.
Saturday, May 8:
Documentary Filmmaking Master Class with Thomas Allen Harris, 10am-2pm at Labotanica on Project Row Houses campus.
All day live music concerts and turntablism (Reggae, Dancehall Soca, Dub, Dubstep, et al.) 12pm-6pm at Dupree Sculpture Park on Project Row Houses campus

Latin Film Shorts curated by Juan Caceres followed by artists talk-- Shifting Roots and Routes: Art and Re-Presentation of Cultural Hybridity, 7pm at Labotanica on Project Row Houses campus.
Sunday, May 9:
Thomas Allen Harris presents his award winning film É Minha Cara/That's My Face and a sneak preview of his current work-in-progress Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People and Q&A, 5:30pm-7:00pm at Rice Media Center
Followed by a screening of Herscovits at the Heart of Blackness and then curators and magazine editors talk-- Shifting Roots and Routes: art and Re-Presentation of Cultural Hybridity, 7:30pm-9:30pm at Rice Media Center
Closing reception follows.
$10 per event or $25 for a full festival pass which includes admission to all events, excluding the master class which is $50.
