After some confusion earlier this week about who would be able to run ad District-level Delegates for Barack Obama, the national campaign has decided to allow overwhelming surge of registered candidates to run — see story links below. This means that Walter and Randall have a very short timeframe to contact all of their supporters to show up this Sunday. Please help by forwarding this message to your eMail lists.

The District-level Delegate Caucus for Barack Obama that you should attend — if you are a registered Democrat and Barbara Lee is your Congresswoman — will be this Sunday:

Sunday • April 13 • 2 PM
Beebe Memorial Cathedral • Oakland
3900 Telegraph Avenue
near the MacArthur BART Station

to become 9th CD delegates for Barack Obama

The California district level delegates for the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August will be selected at local caucuses throughout the state on Sunday, April 13, 2008. Registered Democrats go to the local caucus in their congressional district at 2:00 PM and cast a ballot for their favorite delegate selections.

From Barbara Lee’s 9th Congressional District there will be four District-level (two female and two male) Delegates for Obama and two for Clinton with one Alternate Delegate designated for Obama (female). Oakland progressive activists, Walter Riley and Randall White want to represent you, the issues of the 9th CD and Obama for President of the United States at the convention in Denver, Colorado.

The Presidential Primary race has become very fierce when it became clear that Barack Obama was a frontrunner. It is a long way until the DNC and many supporters are concerned that the opponents to Obama — of any political party — will do anything to prevent the real change that Barack Obama will bring about should he become President of the United States.

To participate in this caucus you should get in line at Beebe Memorial Cathedral before 2:00 PM.

At 2:00 PM the doors will open. You have to be in line no later than 3:00 PM to be able to vote.

Sunday, April 13 at 2:00 PM

You are NOT required to stay for the entire caucus to cast your vote.

You may sign in, cast your ballot and leave.

If you are NOT a registered Democrat — registered in the 9th Congressional District, Congresswoman Barbara Lee — one can register to vote, or change their party affiliation, at the Caucus. Caucuses open at 2pm and you must be in line by 3pm, Clinton delegate selection is at a different location

As expected the level of trickeration employed by the opponents of Senator Barack Obama has increased and are expected to continue. In December of 2007 Walter and Randall could see that these dirty tricks could prevail at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August if the loyalty of the pledged Obama delegates was in question. This is when they decided to collaborate on running to become district-level delegates for Obama. Between this Sunday and the DNC it is certain that the opponents — not just the Clinton campaign — will continue to try to do everything they can to derail the Obama campaign. This means that every last delegate will be personally courted to change their support for Barack Obama.

It is vital that we select delegates this Sunday that we can count on. Many of the delegates that are running in the 9th CD are unknown to most experienced Democratic activists in this district. While it is usually good to bring in new energy to the political arena, this year is not a good time to gamble on a bright future. If we are looking for the positive change that Obama represents we need to make sure it happens, we can't relax until after every ballot is counted. It is going to be a long year…
