Oakland East Bay Symphony Presents 'The Planets and Stars' February 25, 2011

The Oakland East Bay Symphony (OEBS) collaborates with San Francisco Performances to present the West Coast premiere of Grammy Award-winning composer Billy Childs' Violin Concerto, a piece he wrote expressly for renowned jazz violinist and MacArthur "genius" grant recipient Regina Carter. The program, entitled "The Planets and Stars", will also feature Gustav Holst's masterpiece "The Planets", led by Assistant Conductor Bryan Nies. A third work, Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" will include music students from OEBS' successful Music for Excellence outreach that serves over 3,000 students in grades 3-12 in Oakland and will round out a program full of exploration and imagination. The performance takes place Friday, February 25, at 8 pm at Oakland's Paramount Theatre, with a pre-concert talk by John Kendall Bailey one hour before the concert.
