Oakland East Bay Symphony begins 2012 with a program featuring Carl Orff's monumental "Carmina Burana" on Friday, January 27, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Talented local opera singers Carrie Hennessey, Zachary Gordin and Brian Thorsett will lead the way, bringing the saucy, passionate piece to life with support from the Oakland Symphony Chorus, Lynne Morrow, Artistic Director; and the Oakland Youth Orchestra. "Carmina Burana" will be conducted by Maestro Morgan, Lynne Morrow and Brian Nies. The concert begins with Rossini's Semiramide Overture and Glazanov's Saxophone Concerto in E-flat Major, featuring Lucas Hopkins, winner of the Young Artist Competition held in June 2011. An engaging pre-concert talk by John Kendall Bailey begins at 7 pm.
