Oakland East Bay Symphony (OEBS) kicks off its 2012-2013 season with its appropriately timed "Opening Night: Celebrating Democracy" concert. The exciting all-American program features an exuberant fanfare by African-American composer Adolphus Hailstork, a world premiere by Bay Area composer Gordon Getty, and Copland's Clarinet Concerto featuring OEBS' new principal clarinetist Bill Kalinkos. The evening will also recognize preeminent local composer and UC Berkeley Professor Emeritus' Olly Wilson's 75th birthday by featuring his "Episodes for Orchestra" and will wrap up with Bernstein's celebrated Symphonic Dances from "West Side Story." The opening night concert is sponsored by Wells Fargo. A pre-concert talk by John Kendall Bailey takes place at 7 p.m.
