!O. Henry's Gift of the Magi/Foster Father' is the story of the real spirit of Christmas. A young couple spending their first Christmas together is discouraged to find themselves too impoverished to buy each other gifts. When they cannot stretch their pennies far enough, each must face personal sacrifice to purchase the other a special gift. The Foster Father is a funny and tender look at a young Jewish carpenter named Yosef, in love with a beautiful young maiden, Miriam. His life is suddenly turned upside down when God calls him to be the "foster father" of His only begotten Son in this one-act play. This adds an element of contemporary humor to tell the story of Christ's birth from Joseph's point of view.
