The Goethe-Institute Presents Emigrating from Nazi Germany in 1938, the Jewish family Redlich takes refuge in Kenya. There Walter, a trained lawyer, works as manager on a rundown farm. Their daughter Regina adapts easily to the new environment, even learning the indigenous language, but the wife Jettel has serious problems getting used to this new and tougher life. Their marriage too approaches a crisis. When the war breaks out, everything changes and gradually the Redlichs’ learn to fully appreciate the new country and its people.
