North Mississippi Allstars, a southern rock and blues band, was founded in 1996 in Hernando, MS, by brothers Luther (guitar and vocals) and Cody (drums, keyboards and electric washboard) Dickinson along with Chris Chew (electric bass guitar). Duwayne Burnside and his father R.L Burnside have played on some of the band's tracks and the group first came to prominence when they won a Blues Music Award for "Best New Artist Debut" in 2001. Over time, their music has proven to be undoubtedly contemporary, infused with "everything from shaggy power pop to ramshackle punk" (Washington Post), but the influences of Mississippi blues and the gospel tradition are never too far away.
