Nokie Edwards was the original lead guitarist from the sensational instrumental rock band The Ventures. The Ventures have made famous many classic instrumental hits including thier signature song "Walk, Don't Run", "Perfidia", Diamond Head", "Slaughter On Tenth Avenue", and the famous TV theme from the hit police drama "Hawaii Five-O." Nokie Edwards is responsible for writingmany Ventures original songs such as thetune"Surf Rider", popularized in the 1996 movie "Pulp Fiction." The Ventures are renowned worldwide for establishing the electric guitar as an exciting and powerful lead instrument in the early 1960s and were the first artist to have a Top10 hit with two different versions of the same song with "Walk, Don't Run '64", rearranged to reflect the popular surf music themes of the era. Many talented Artists have long cited the Ventures as an influence on thier career, including George Harrison, Joe Walsh, Jimmy Page, Stephen Stills, Peter Frampton, Stanley Clarke, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Fogerty, Mark Knopfler, and Jeff Cook from the country-rock band Alabama. Among the band's many accomplishments, The Ventures even outsold the Beatles 2 to 1 in Japan all throughout the 1960s.
Nokie Edwards, along with the Ventures, was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH March 10, 2008.
The Brookdale Innconcert will begin at 9:00 PM with the Reefriders, an up-and-coming surf rock band from the San Francisco Bay Area,to be followed by Robbie Allen and the Sundogs who will later perform as Nokie Edwards backup band after taking the stage.
