Because of the inherent inefficiencies in the present transportation system, every major city in the U.S. is increasingly investing in Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies aimed at reducing driving and freeing citizens from automobile ownership. TDM efforts have promoted walking, biking, public transit and ride-sharing modes as alternatives to driving. But now information technology is taking things to an all-new level.

Car-sharing revolutionizes how we acquire transportation. It enables consumers to micro-rent an automobile by the minute or hour. For example, Zipcar has thousands of cars distributed across urban neighborhoods that can be rented instantly by members. Together with bike-share and smart ride-share, a future for smart Mobility on Demand (MOD) is emerging. The economics offer the potential to substantially reduce the cost of transportation for consumers and governments.

But mobility-on-demand has its own set of challenges. Car-sharing is a new service that works for some, but not for many. Most of the country is still oriented toward our mono-modal automobile system. How can we harness the power of this new mobility and access technologies more effectively?

Join us as we hear from one of the world's foremost experts on micro-vehicles and mobility-on-demand.
