SPLASHGIRL are a cinematic Norwegian trio, creating boundary-less musical landscapes, with a nod to minimalist composer Steve Reich, pianist Erik Satie, as well as Sigur Rós and My Bloody Valentine. The band was formed in 2004 and sweet music occurred almost instantly. After a great night at The Vortex last November, we are very happy to announce their return to London, playing at Pizza Express Jazz Club on 8th June.
Featuring pianist Andreas Stensland Løwe (Thelma & Clyde, Lama), double bassist Jo Berger Myhre (Ingrid Olava, Solveig Slettahjell) and drummer Andreas Lønmo Knudsrød (Sacred Harp, Lama), this rare show, featuring tracks from their forthcoming third album Pressure is not to be missed! The subtle use of electronics from their last two albums Doors.Keys. and Arbor, has been taken a step further and the reference to drone music is a lot more obvious, to the point that the drone music guru Randall Dunn (Earth, Sunn 0))), Jesse Sykes) is mixing the new album. Splashgirl site their biggest musical influences as Earth, Oren Ambarchi, Christian Wallumrød, John Tilbury and Sunn 0))).
Expect a dynamic show from Splashgirl, ranging from low-key drone textures to intense walls of sound, all within the context of an instrumental, acoustic trio. The show will be preceded by a short Q&A session by broadcaster and DJ Nick Luscombe.

-The slightest gradation speaks with great profundity. (John Kelman, All
About Jazz)

-Subtleness gets a completely new meaning.( Benjamin Vis, Nieuwe Geluiden)

- Splashgirl was an exciting discovery and one of Punkt 08's best shows, ranking as the surprise of the year‹ and not just at the festival (...)

Splashgirl is a group that deserves a wider audience and, if it can get some proper exposure, no doubt will. (Allaboutjazz.com)

Pizza Express Jazz Club may well be smaller than some of the capitol’s other live rooms but its classy interior and close audience to stage proximity ensures that each gig brings the best out of both. As a restaurant chain founded in the 1940 by Peter Boizot MBE, whose trip to Florence inspired him to create a pizza chain that prided itself on serving fresh, ha...ndmade pizzas, Pizza Express has long supported jazz in some of its larger restaurants around the UK.
