NEXUSpresents fiber 8 artists 8 viewpoints

(PHILADELPHIA) As part of the Philadelphia wide International Fiber Symposium NEXUS/Foundation for Today's Art presents 8 Artists 8 Viewpoints an exhibition highlighting the work of 8 recent graduates in Fiber from Philadelphia University, University of the Arts, Moore College of Art and Tyler School of Art. The artists include Leslie Atik, Lauren Gross, Regina Dyhouse, Sarah Koziol, Rebecca Landes, Jae Lee, Sarah Perot and Sylvie Shaffer. This exhibition opens Thursday, March 13 and runs through Friday, April 4.
Leslie Atik (MFA Tyler School of Art) The metaphors shared by language and textiles is the origin of her work. Leslie consider the poetic and universal qualities of grammar and explore them through the materiality of chalk, paint, ink, paper, and thread.
Regina Dyhouse (BFA Moore College of Art) Regina’s recent work is the result of working our real life conflicts and using relationship issues to dictate what materials to use, what emotion to convey and what techniques to utilize.
Sarah Koziol (BFA Tyler School of Art) Derrida’s concept of deconstruction as well as illness in her family inspires a combination of fiber and performance art in Sarah Koziol’s work.
Rebecca Landes (Moore College of Art) “Cloth and other everyday domestic objects accompany us during our most personal moments. If they could reveal the intimate details they know of our lives, perhaps it would make us blush.”
Jae Lee (MS Philadelphia University) Natural phenomenon, lines of spider webs, transparencies of spring season’s leave, shadows of trees and reflections of water influence Jae Lee’s prints on non-woven fabrics and substitutes.
Sarah Perot (BFA University of the Arts) The similarities between the microscopic and its opposite, and in the delicate balance between organization and chaos provoke labor intensive fiber structures of natural materials that embody subtlety, intricate detail, organic growth and architectural form
Sylvie Shaffer (Philadelphia University) Her work " Ivy Bubbles" is based on observational drawings of an ivy entangled chainlink fence. Repeated and then pixilated in Adobe Photoshop the entire piece is broken up into a circle-based grid structure and digitally manipulated yet again. “Ivy Bubbles” is printed with disperse dyes on polyester taffeta, and the space between each “bubble” is cut out by hand.
