Glen Cove, New York 11542

Remember potsy? How about stick ball? Can you still Double Dutch? On Wednesday, May 4 at 7:30 pm, Congregation Tifereth Israel (CTI) in Glen Cove rekindles these wonderful memories of growing up in New York City with a showing of the PBS documentary, New York Street Games. The event is free and open to the public.

The core photographs of this documentary are by the famed photographer, Arthur Leipzig, a resident of Sea Cliff. Leipzig will be present for the May 4 screening.

The showing of New York Street Games is CTI’s prelude to Brooklyn/Bronx Day on Sunday, May 15. At this 10 am family event, bubbies (grandmothers) and zaidies (grandfathers) will demonstrate and teach a new generation of children the games they played growing up on the streets of New York. Expect to see plenty of Spalding balls and penny candies. There might even be an egg cream or two!

CTI has provided Jewish programming and education to the Long Island community since 1897. CTI is located at 40 Hill Street, at the intersection with Landing Road. For further information about this or other programs at CTI, call (516) 676-5080 or log onto www.ctionline.org.
