New York City Singles Spring Hike - Diamond Mountain June 7, 2009

Join Meet Market Adventures & other active singles for a fun day of hiking in Up State New York. Enjoy the spectacular spring colors and views as we hike Diamond Mountain.

We begin by hiking along the beautiful Stony Brook. Then a short but steep and rocky climb over Diamond Mountain for superb views of the countryside. Onward down to the shore of beautiful Pine Meadow Lake for lunch. We return alongside brooks and a wooden footbridge. We will stop for lunch and enjoy the spectacular views.

Moderate-Challenging 6-mile hike, Harriman State Park, NY

This is a trip for people who have hiked before. We will be going at a brisk pace and there will be obstacles and streams to cross.

BRING: Your lunch, plenty of water, backpack/day pack.

Wear: Weather-appropriate athletic clothing (ski jacket or similar outer layer, warm layers (fleece, wicking layer, anything other than cotton), comfortable athletic pants (not jeans), hat, gloves, scarf, hiking boots (or athletic shoes). A base layer of long johns (poly or silk) is a good idea, as well as an extra pair of socks. As we may encounter wet or snowy trails, we strongly recommend HIKING BOOTS, or trail runners, not tennis shoes. Bring more warm layers than you think you need--it is always colder and windier in the mountains than in NYC.

Note: We love comfy cotton clothes for lounging...but they just aren't the best things for outdoor excursions. Why? Cotton holds moisture, gets heavy and loses its insulative properties. Any synthetic is better than cotton for hiking. Polyester, poly blends, polypropylene, DryWick, DryFIT...any of these will serve you better than cotton
