New York City Ballet: Tradition and Innovation February 10, 2009

One of Balanchine's first works in America, and arguably one of his greatest masterpieces, 'Concerto Barocco' brings Bach's double violin concerto to life with brilliant and understated virtuosity. In contrast, Bigonzetti's 'Oltremare' is brooding and intensely physical, depicting the journey towards a new life. Opening on a romantic note, each section of Tschaikovsky Suite No. 3 swells with ardor, culminating in a magnificent, regal finale.
