On Saturday 28 April The New Wolsey Theatre opens it’s doors and invites you to discover what it’s really like at your local theatre with tours, workshops and presentations designed to give you a unique insight into how a show is created. And it’s all FREE!

Tours of the building will take off every 35 minutes taking participants back stage, into the dressing rooms where you might meet a surprise guest or two, on to the fly floor (optional if you are afraid of heights) and along the way you have an opportunity to see the stage management and technical teams at work, view set models, costume designs and costumes and meet the people who make it all happen. You can also book to take part in a technical display which provides a fascination opportunity to see and hear how a show is created and run. This session will be lead by New Wolsey Technical Manager Nikk Turnham and members of her team.

Open Day occurs during the run of the New Wolsey production, Travels with my Aunt which Doug Rintoul directs. Doug and the cast of 4 will present a Travels workshop titled ‘Page to Stage’ which will take you through the production process from auditions to opening night, explain how the rehearsal process is structured and give you an insight into the life of an actor – a must for any aspiring actor.

Tours, workshops and presentations are free but advance booking is advised. Call the Box Office on 01473 295900 to reserve your places. There are two BSL signed tours – one at 12.20pm and the second at 2.40pm, and two BSL workshops – at 11.30am and 2pm – led by Tracey Tyer.

“BLS performances are very popular, particularly pantomime, and we hope this audience will be keen to explore the theatre with Tracey’s assistance,” says Sarah. “We hope the BSL technical and ‘page to stage’ workshops will be a particularly useful opportunity for patrons with access issues to learn about how we operate and to become familiar with the building.”
