NEW FLAMENCO DANCE CLASSES at LACC COMMUNITY SERVICES START ON SUNDAY, JUNE 24th-JULY 22nd, 2012

Join us for great flamenco dance and guitar accompaniment classes at Los Angeles City College. The new SUMMER session workshop takes place on Sunday, June 24 through Sunday, July 22nd. Classes are taught by Katerina Tomás and accompanied by Stephen Dick on the guitar. Guitarists who wish to learn how to accompany dancers are welcome to join this class.

Section 1 - 1:30-3:00pm - Introductory/Beginning Flamenco Dance - Learn flamenco dance techniques in this essential class, including arms/hands, footwork, rhythm/rhythmic hand claps, body posture and style, marking steps, turns, and choreography. Our class choreography for this session is a combination Tangos Gitanos (Spanish Gypsy style Tangos) and Bulerías de Jerez (Spanish Gypsy dance). A great and fun introduction to flamenco-ALL NEWCOMERS WELCOME/RETURNING STUDENTS WELCOME!

Section 2 - 3:00-4:30pm - Intermediate Flamenco Dance - Learn more challenging technique for the upper body and arms, footwork, and turns (vueltas quebradas). Class choreography: Tientos- ENTIRE NEW CHOREOGRAPHY: ENTRANCE WITH CUES: entrada/llamadas; 1ST SECTION/LETRA: beautiful choreography for the letra (song verse) and GUITAR W/DANCER SECTION: Falseta, FOOTWORK SEQUENCES: escobillas (multiple footwork sequences) and the FINALE: Tangos Gitanos. ALL INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED STUDENTS WELCOME!

Please bring hard heeled shoes with a strap to all classes (boots for men), and long, flowing skirts for women. Contact Katerina at [email protected] for information on where to purchase items for class.

FEES:
$60 per section + $15 per section for the guitarist's fee = $75 total for all 5 classes!
