New Music Now: Ned Rothenberg and Marty Ehrlich
The co-curators of New Music Now present an evening of their own work. Ned Rothenberg begins with Inner Diaspora, a project described as “an interlude of deep placidity and concentration” by The New York Times. For this performance, Rothenberg (on clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax, and shakuhachi) is joined by his trio Sync, featuring Jerome Harris (acoustic bass guitar and acoustic guitar), Samir Chatterjee (tabla), and the string virtuosi Mark Feldman (violin) and Erik Friedlander (cello). Marty Ehrlich, declared “among the most consistently inventive composers and bandleaders in modern jazz” by Time Out New York, follows with his sextet playing selections from his new CD, News from the Rail. Joining Ehrlich (on reeds) are James Zollar (trumpet), Ray Anderson (trombone), Brad Jones (bass), James Weidman (piano), and Matt Wilson (drums).
