NEW FLAMENCO DANCE CLASSES at LACC COMMUNITY SERVICES ON SUNDAYS, FEBRUARY 24th-MARCH 24th, 2013

Join us for great flamenco dance and guitar accompaniment classes at Los Angeles City College. The NEW WINTER session workshops start on Sunday, February 24, and continue through March 24, 2013.

Classes are taught by maestra Katerina Tomás and accompanied by award winning guitarist, Stephen Dick. Guitarists who wish to learn how to accompany dancers are welcome to join these classes.

Section 1 - 1:30-3:00pm - Introduction/Beginning Flamenco Dance - Learn flamenco dance techniques in this essential class, including arms/hands, footwork, rhythm/rhythmic hand claps, body posture and style, marking steps, turns, and choreography. Our class choreography for this session includes TANGOS GITANOS - a great Spanish Gypsy dance, and SEVILLANAS, the quintessential dance of the Féria de Sevilla. This class is a great and fun introduction to flamenco - ALL BEGINNERS AND BEGINNING STUDENTS ARE WELCOME!

Section 2 - 3:00-4:30pm - Intermediate Flamenco Dance - Learn more challenging technique for the upper body and arms, footwork, and turns (vueltas quebradas). Class choreography: ALEGRIAS - ENTRANCE WITH CUES: entrada/llamadas; 1ST SECTION/LETRA: beautiful choreography for the letra (song verse) and GUITAR W/DANCER SECTION: FALSETA, FOOTWORK SEQUENCES: escobillas (multiple footwork sequences) and the FINALE. ALL INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED STUDENTS ARE WELCOME!

Please bring hard heeled shoes with a strap to all classes (boots for men), and a long, flowing skirt for women (skirt is optional).

FEES:
$60 per section + $15 per section for the guitarist's fee = $75 total for all 5 classes per section.
