Exploring the Purely Live and Visual and Performer: Body and Concept are for those who want to actively investigate performance art/live-art through combined workshop and discussion.
These workshops provide a platform and opportunity to learn techniques and methods,
conceptually and physically in a safe, creative, and yet intensive space.

"If I handed you a shelled walnut, a roll of plastic-wrap, and a light bulb, and said, go, perform" What would you do? Here we will start from the purity and simplicity of live-art, and gradually transcend into performance as installation, relation between performer and viewer, and the concept. Be prepared to dig deep within yourself to find material and concept.

ADINA BIER : BIO

Adina is one of the new performance artists coming from Boston, and trained at the Museum School, in a department run by Tony Schwensen, Marilyn Arsem and Mari Novotny-Jones, with the visiting teachers Jamia McMurry and Julie-Andree T.

Adina and her sister Arielle have recently presented a 3-week live performance at the Alice Chilton Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

"You Are My Carbon Copy, And This Is Our Lair"
consisted of 5-hour performances withing an elaborately constructyed installation, withing which the sisters were alternately suspended in pods and exploring the limits of the relationship of sisters: volatile, sensitive and even sensual.

ADINA BIER: CV

Adina Bier graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA), in affiliation with Tufts University, in December of 2007, and is now performing internationally. Her work as a performance artist incorporates a wide variety of visual and conceptual art, including sound, movement, body, and texture. Her use of the body is a focal aspect of her performances. Thematically, Bier’s work continuously suggests her relationships with health, feminine roles, and belief systems. Her most recent work focuses on physical limitations of the body/mind and socially constructed confines that we as individuals face on a daily basis.

Bier’s work responds to and is inspired by sharing herself with others; not as a generalized performer espousing universal truths to an audience, but as a problematic individual sharing a singular moment with a particular group of people, gathered together in a place with a history and complexity of its own. Though, it is not, by definition 'site-specific,’ she tailors her work to respond to current issues at hand. Her intention is to connect with her viewers emotionally and physically by sharing herself with her viewers, and in turn sharing in their experiences of the place, or community, of the performance.

In 2009, Adina Bier performed cross-continentally. In Beijing, she performed in the 798 District for the largest performance art festival to date, the 10th Anniversary OPEN Art Festival. In Hildesheim, Germany, she performed in ZOOM! West Europa. In Berlin, Germany, she performed in Performer Stammtisch’s IPAH Special at Flütgraben. In Italy, she collaborated in a 30-person performance/installation Swimming Cities of Serenissima which floated down the Adriatic Sea heading to the Venice Biennale. And in New York, she performed at venues such as The BAG Gallery and The Overtake.

She has been a member of the International Performance Association, Hildesheim (IPAH) since 2007, along with co-founding The Apostrophe Collective. She is now a co-founder and member of the International Performance Association, America (IPAA) which will host emerging artist performance art events internationally.
