new work from the next generation of dancemakers

Experience dance in a new dimension – eight fresh, bite sized performances showcasing the best up and coming professional choreographers and their collaborators over two evenings. These super talented artists let their imaginations run riot creating compelling and varied performances mixing physical dynamism, music and film.

Tuesday 12 January
Darren Ellis: Sticks and Bones
A stunning solo for Darren and his drumsticks - an exploration of practice and the quest for perfection.

Mickael Marsau Riviere: Appel
Well known as a hip hop artist, Riviere has created a trio based on the live interaction between two dancers and a musician inspired by B-boying, capoeira and contemporary dance.

Tom Dale: Cabin Fever
Lost in a world of their own, one character's cabin fever and mental loops produce an exhilarating and hypnotic performance.

Douglas Thorpe: a mind as beautiful
A blistering and brutal, sometimes achingly tender new work for four dancers, exploring the experience of schizophrenia.

Friday 15 January
TANJA RÅMAN+DBINI INDUSTRIES: (re)traces
This trio features the distinct movement aesthetics of Tanja Råman, stunning photography by John Collingswood and hypnotic electronic soundscape by Jon Ruddick.

Ben Wright (bgroup): Passing Strange and Wonderful

An intense physical conversation for two, framed by a rectangle of fluttering light. Evoking a sense of something partially remembered, the piece explores the insatiable and unattainable desire to break through the shell of another.

Freddie Opuko-Addaie: Silence Speaks Volumes
An evocative and explosive work for five performers weaving a rich, multicultural movement vocabulary with powerful partnering. Plus a compelling soundscore combining cello with sampled lyrics from traditional Ghanaian Asante music.

Claire Cunningham & Jose Aged: 4m2
An energetic and engaging physical theatre duet combining real stories, a stunning filmic backdrop and multi-layered soundscape by Scanner.

Dance3 is a new small scale initiative from the National Dance Network touring nine artists throughout the UK in 2010.

Accompanying the performances is A Blank Canvas, a foyer installation by Heather Eddington’s State of Flux dancefilm company blending dance, film and animation.
