Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals Exhibit, 1933-1945 March 30, 2011

March 30-April 3, 12pm-10pm, April 4 12pm-5pm

The Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center (Holocaust Center), Seattle Men's Chorus, The Pride Foundation, and The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle present an exhibit: Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933-1945. The exhibit will be on display at Seattle's McCaw Hall from Wednesday, March 30 to Sunday, April 3.

This exhibit was produced by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. It will be shown in conjunction with Seattle Men's Chorus' spring concert, Falling in Love Again, Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3, a love story between two men during the Nazi Era.

This exhibit tells a little known story of the campaign of persecution against homosexuals in Germany. Denounced as "antisocial parasites" and as "enemies of the state," more than 100,000 men were arrested under a broadly interpreted law against homosexuality. They were persecuted and terrorized by the Nazi state.

Exhibit is open to the public at no charge:
Wednesday March 30th to Saturday, April 2nd from Noon to 10:00 pm
Sunday April 3rd from Noon to 5:00 pm.

The Holocaust Center brings this unique opportunity to Seattle to educate our community about the legalization of the persecution of the gay community during the Nazi Era in Germany. The Center works throughout the Pacific Northwest with students, teachers and community groups teaching that hatred and bigotry can have tragic consequences. The Center provides teacher training and community resources using lessons from the Holocaust to inform our lives today.
