Navayath Food and Culture at Alibaba. Navayath the Introduction - During the reign of Vijaynagar dynasty's Queen Ambakka, Bhatkal, a tiny town on the west coast between Mangalore and Karwar, was the trading hub, with Persian/Arab traders descending in hordes. Over time some settled here earning the name 'Navayaths' or newcomers. Another theory blames the notorious rule of the Governor of Iraq, Hajaj Bin Yusuf, which led people to flee and land here. Whatever their reasons, these Arabs and Persians, settled here, developing their own language 'Navayathi', a fusion of 9 languages - konkani, Persian, Arabic,Sanskrit, and others - and of course their own cuisine, an amalgamation of middle eastern and local influences.Cuisines:Arabian,Persian and Navayathi (Bhatkal, coastal Karnataka).
