For many, Japan either conjures visions of a land steeped in ancient tradition or a neon-painted cityscape of modern style and technology. The true essence of Japan, hidden between the lines of the popular manga comics and geisha novels that have captured the world’s attention, is the force that has shaped its people’s lives, thoughts, and culture—its nature. Mountains cover over 70% of the Japanese archipelago with incredible natural beauty, and many of its 29 national and 55 quasi-national parks have been designated as World Heritage Sites and wetlands of international significance.

Join us for "Nature Japan: The Other Side of Cool Japan," a presentation of images captured by US National Park Service's Rudy D'Alessandro. Discover Oze, Japan's newest national park, through Mr. D'Alessandro’s lens as he explores its sprawling expanse of majestic mountain scenery and lush marshlands. Set to the nature-electronica sounds of artist Yoko K, this presentation is an illuminating feast for the senses, using modern technology as a medium to capture and express the spirit of Japan's true nature.

This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required. RSVP to [email protected] or call 202-238-6949 with your name, affiliation, and the number in your party.
