2008 Contest: Write it! Wear it! Snap it! Boast it!
We need your help in coming up with a slogan for NWF's campaign to protect public lands. We're looking for a simple slogan that expresses the importance of public lands and inspires others to visit or help protect public lands. The winning idea could be featured on a T-shirt, displayed in a magazine advertisement and headline NWF's Our Public Lands Website!
This summer and fall we will be running a multi-step contest in which you will have opportunities to 1) Create a slogan for the 'Our Public Lands' website, which will be featured on the site, on a T-shirt and in an advertisement and 2) See your public lands photo in a magazine!
There will be four steps of the contest. We will check off each step as we progress through the contest so you know which step we currently are at.
Step 1: Write it! - Submit a Slogan: We need your help in writing a slogan for this website. The slogan should emphasize the importance of public lands, inspire others to visit or protect public lands and be short enough to fit on a t-shirt. The winning slogan might be featured on the website and on a T-shirt, which will be sold and featured in a major national outdoor magazine. The winner will receive five T-shirts for family and friends and therefore free entry to Step 3 of the contest. Slogan submissions are due by midnight EST on August 1, 2008.
Step 2: Wear it! Make a donation of $15 and receive a public lands T-shirt.
Step 3: Snap it! Submit photos of you, your friends and family wearing your public lands T-shirt on public lands and answer the question: "Why do you protect public lands?" The top (2) winning photos and stories will be featured in an ad that will run in a major national outdoors magazine. The winner will also receive a year's subscription to the magazine.
Step 4: Boast it! The winners of both the slogan and photo portions of the contest will have full bragging rights, but for all other contestants, there's no need to despair. We will be prominently displaying a virtual billboard of all photo entries on the homepage of our website where you can direct all your family and friends.

Bring your yard to life! Create a wildlife-friendly yard officially certified through NWF's Wildlife HabitatTM program.

Drought-Resistant Gardening: The days of regularly hauling out the hose to douse your garden are over, even in regions that once were considered water rich. According to several scientific projections, the parched conditions now occurring in the Southeast and other drought-stricken regions of the country are likely to spread as the effects of global climate change take hold. Fortunately, you can take a number of sensible steps in your garden to conserve dwindling water supplies and insulate your yard from an increasingly harsh and unpredictable climate—and lower your water bills in the process.

Put Your State Bird on Your Phone: Our friends at eNature.com have released free ringtones for each state's official bird -- from Alabama's Yellowhammer to Wyoming's Western Meadowlark. You can preview each bird call, find your favorites and then load them on your mobile phone And you if can't choose a state, you can always choose the Bald Eagle.
*Note: We currently have ringtones for 46 states. The four not featured are Delaware's Blue Hen Chicken and the Rhode Island Red, because eNature generally does not include domestic animals in our features, as well as Oklahoma's Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and the Nene of Hawaii, for which we don't have good audio recordings of their calls to use as ringtones.
