The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium will participate in a National Toast in honor of the late beer journalist and expert Michael Jackson. The toast to raise money to fight Parkinson’s disease will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. at its location at 111 E. Fourth St. at Commerce, as well as at other pubs and restaurants across the country.

More than any other person, Jackson, an English writer known as “The Beer Hunter,” was credited for helping to raise the status of beer around the world. He passed away at his home in England on Aug. 30 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease and diabetes. He was 65.
“Michael Jackson had more impact than any other individual on the brewing industry and radically changed the way people view beer,” said Keith Schlabs, food and beverage manager for The Flying Saucer chain. “His passion changed an industry, and we want to join other restaurants, pubs, brewers and beer lovers around the world in honoring his memory.”

Proceeds from sales of the beer will go to the National Parkinson Foundation.

I'm really looking forward to honoring the great Michael Jackson. I had the pleasure of meeting him about 12 years ago at a beer tasting. It was one the most memorial days of my life. He will be sorely missed.
