The Maru Montero Dance Company presents the 15th annual National Cinco de Mayo Festival on Saturday, May 5, 2007 from Noon to 6 p.m. beside the Washington Monument (outdoor Sylvan Theater) on the National Mall.

The family-focused celebration will feature a live mix of music and dance from mariachi to merengue to hip-hop, a diverse children’s pavilion, and food. The Festival is free and open to all. It will be held rain or shine.
Performers at the Festival include the Reggeaton Mix Music Band, QuinTango, Maru Montero Dance Company, Cristopolis and many others. A special horse troupe will also perform at the Festival.

The Children’s Pavilion will house several interactive exhibits by the Smithsonian and Celebra la Ciencia, children’s dance performances and mini-classes, a fashion show, piñata games, traditional Latino arts and crafts activities, a soccer clinic, and guest appearances by Maya and Miguel (PBS television characters).

“Dance, music and family are very important parts of Latino culture,” said Maru Montero, founder of the dance company and the Festival. “We will celebrate them all at this year in our 15th annual celebration of Cinco de Mayo.”
