Each year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to the city of Washington, DC. Signature festival events include Family Day and the Opening Ceremony, the Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival and the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. In addition, there are over 150 daily cultural performances by local, national and international entertainers, sports competitions, and more - held at venues throughout Washington, DC and its suburbs. Many Festival events are free and open to the public. However, there are some events that require admission fees.
