October 4, 2011 – National Chemistry Week 2011 will be observed with two events that are fun, free, and open to the entire family:

Harry Potter Potions
4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20
Girls Scouts of Western Pennsylvania Edinboro Service Center, 5681 Route 6N
In collaboration with Edinboro University’s weeklong Potterfest, Penn State Behrend will celebrate chemistry in the wizarding world. Demonstrations by Harry Potter himself begin promptly at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.; attend either session, or both. Hands-on activities for children will be offered before and after the demonstrations. The first 100 participants will receive a special Harry Potter prize.

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5
Millcreek Mall Concourse
Members of the Erie Chapter of the American Chemical Society—including students and faculty from Penn State Behrend, Allegheny College, Edinboro University, Gannon University, Mercyhurst College, and University of Pittsburgh at Titusville—will lead hands-on science experiments related to National Chemistry Week’s health theme.
