CSO Conductor Emeritus Pierre Boulez leads musicians from the CSO in a contemporary chamber concert celebrating American composer Elliott Carter at 100. Born in New York City on December 11, 1908, Carter is recognized as one of the prime innovators of 20th-century music. This concert features his 1975 composition 'A Mirror on Which to Dwell' with soprano Jo Ellen Miller, based on six poems by Elizabeth Bishop, alternating between considerations about nature, love and isolation. The program also includes 'Streets' by the young French composer Bruno Mantovani, which evokes the crowded streets of New York, and Swiss composer Hanspeter Kyburz's 'Reseaux.'
