More about Musicity:

Musicity is an ongoing, city-by-city, programme of curated music that sits at the intersection of sound, architecture and experience. Musicity is the brainchild of BBC Radio 3 Late Junction broadcaster and DJ Nick Luscombe and Simon Jordan, creative strategist at London based practice Jump Studios. As part of the initiative, Luscombe and Jordan commissioned 7 recording artists to compose original music as a response to a given building and its architecture, location and immediate surroundings.

Ski Oakenful, Palm Skin Productions and emerging talent Sara Abdel-Hamid – aka Ikonika – are amongst the 7 sound artists involved in the project. Palm Skin responded to Erno Goldfinger’s brutalist Trellick Tower in North Kensington and Ikonika to Battersea Power Station, the decommissioned coal-fired power station located on the south bank of the Thames designed by Giles Gilbert Scott.

It was the French theorist Guy Debord who encouraged the development of “inventive strategies for exploring cities: just about anything that takes pedestrians off predictable paths and jolts them into a new awareness of the urban landscape.”

‘The aim of the project is to encourage people to explore the city and see buildings and to reconsider spaces in London.’ Explains Jordan. ‘We are fascinated by how the digital world can help to re-interpret the city.’

Nick and Simon's small hope is that this project inspires people to see the urban fabric in new ways and encourages them to explore the city musically, architecturally and experientially.

Musicity is announcing news of its second wave very soon...before that.. let's have a party!!
