After setting our audience on fire in 2000 (well, almost), the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival is proud to welcome back one of America's favorite early music ensembles.

Over the course of three decades, the Baltimore Consort has built a legacy in performance and on recordings with their interpretations of catchy tunes from early England, Scotland, France, Italy, and Spain, as well as traditional ballads and dance of the Appalachians and Nova Scotia.

In their upcoming show, the Baltimore Consort presents a magical journey through Scotland, including popular Native Aires, songs by A Courtly Poet, plenty of The Scotch Humour, culminating in a Crossing to the New World. Performing are Mary Anne Ballard (viols and rebec), Mark Cudek (cittern, viols and Renaissance guitar), Larry Lipkis (viols, recorder), Ronn McFarlane (lute), Mindy Rosenfeld (historic flutes), and Danielle Svonavec (voice).

With their aptitude for reaching the ears of classical and folk music lovers alike, the ensemble's music and the enthusiasm that shines through it are of the contageous sort (careful: certain precautions apply).

"The Baltimore Consort is one of the best period instrument ensembles around . . . distinguished by the absolute joyous mastery of their instruments to the degree that they can improvise at will."
---Times Union, Albany NY

"They brought their lutes and viols to Glasgow, along with bewitching soprano, Custer LaRue. . . . It ought to be offensive that the most exhilarating Scots music performance to turn up on our native soil this year should come from America...They bring to this music researched by them with awesome thoroughness, a mix of jazz and joy, of improvisation and uncanny insight."
---The Scotsman, Scotland's National Newspaper
