Music Is Magic: Kids & Music Workshop August 6, 2010

Bethel Woods and The Janice Center are continuing their popular workshop to teach children the joy of music this summer. This unique program debuted in August 2009 and became an instant hit with local families. Taught by Tanya Cohen of The Janice Center, “Music is Magic” is an outgrowth of the popular Music Together experience, a nationwide franchise which taps into the innate musical instincts of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners and cultivates an early appreciation for the arts.

The Janice Center has developed an original 4-week session held exclusively at Bethel Woods featuring songs, beats, rhythms and instruments expressing a '60s theme. In addition to the distinct music, the classes integrate the Bethel Woods experience into the weekly one-hour sessions. In 2010, classes will be held in the beautiful Event Gallery as well as The Great Lawn (weather permitting). In addition, registrants will be eligible to purchase a “buy one, get one free adult lawn ticket to select Bethel Woods concerts and also receive a 40% discount voucher on a single item purchase in the Museum store (on days of the Music is Magic workshop).
The Music is Magic classes will be held every Friday in August, beginning August 6 and continuing through August 27. They are open to children 0-5 years old and their parents (or other adults), who are required to participate in each class. Central to the Music Together approach is that young children learn best from the powerful role model of parents/caregivers who are actively making music.
The cost for the four week program is $106 per child ($60 for an additional sibling) and includes a CD, songbook and Janice Center shirt.
“Music is Magic was one of our most successful programs in 2009,” said Elaine Muscara, Community Outreach Coordinator for Bethel Woods. “The participating children and parents experienced a unique opportunity to benefit from the wonderful Music Together program as well as the Bethel Woods surroundings.
