DakshinaChitra will celebrate Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, from August 23 to 31. At DakshinaChitra, the nine-day festivities will showcase folk performances representing the State, Kerala cuisine, craft and textiles. This year, Kannyar Kali, an ancient and popular art form, performed by the rural folk of Palakkad district will be showcased at DakshinaChitra. This art form is much older than the Kathakali. It is a mixture of song, dance and drama, It is usually held through the night, starting after 10 p.m. till 6 a.m., the next morning. At DakshinaChitra there will be two performances of 30-45 minutes duration, one in the morning and the other in the evening. The Craft Shop at DakshinaChitra will have special arrangements for Onam. The display will highlight Kerala Textiles including Kerala Kasavu Sarees, Mundu Sets, Thorthe (Kerala towels) & Dhoties. For details contact 27472783, 27472603.
