The Las Cruces Museum of Natural History is hosting our monthly lecture series on Tuesday, April 19, at 5:30pm. The lecture will be held at the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History at the Mesilla Valley Mall. Dr. John Xu will discuss the devastating mosquito borne disease malaria. Mosquito control remains the most effective measure to prevent malaria transmission. Dr. Xu will discuss malaria, how mosquitoes transmit the disease, and the use of mosquito control as a preventive measure.

Dr. John Xu joined the Biology Department at NMSU in 2008 after completing medical school and a Ph.D. in China where he worked on malaria and mosquito interactions using genomic approaches. He has worked as a research assistant at the University of Minnesota Microbial and Plant Genomics Institute. He currently teaches microbiology, genomics, and bioinformatics to undergraduate and graduate students at New Mexico State University.
