Dear Sisters and Friends,
On behalf of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated - Mu Chapter I would like to welcome you to our official website for our first ever10-Year Anniversary & Scholarship Banquet The Evolution of a Legacy. The banquet celebration will be taking place on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 6:00 PM at the Center for Tomorrow (University at Buffalo), Buffalo, NY. This years theme will focus on celebrating scholarship, service, and achievements that have positively impacted the Buffalo community. In addition to celebrating a decade ofhistory, Mu Chapter will simultaneouslyhighlight the launch of its First Annual S.O.L. (Service, Opportunity & Leadership) Scholarship.
This historic and monumental 10-Year Celebration will include networking, reflective and inspirational speeches, a photo exhibit, raffles, performances, and much more. The event will feature Mu Chapter's brightest and most inspiringmoments along with the recognition of the sisters, friends, and surrounding community thathave supported and impactedour work throughout the years.
Mu Chapter's Banquet Planning Committee has invested a great amount of energy and enthusiasmto present you one of the most anticipated events in Buffalo's history. We look forward to you joining us as we celebrate a decade of sisterhood, Greek Unity, andcommitment to raising ofawareness of violence against women and most importantly, educating the Buffalo youth. Center for Tomorrow

The banquet will take place in the beautiful Center for Tomorrow located in the North Campus ofthe University at Buffalo.This privately financed building houses a 350-seat conference area that can be converted into smaller meeting rooms, a reception and display area, a food preparation and serving facility, and a 7,500-square-foot open courtyard. It is home to the University at Buffalo Foundation (UBF) and Alumni Relations.

The S.O.L. Scholarship: Service. Opportunity. Leadership.

PURPOSE

In our efforts to help foster the future of Buffalo youth in higher education, the Mu Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has created the Service, Opportunity, and Leadership Scholarship Program (S.O.L), which is designed to provide financial support to underrepresented students. Our purpose is to recognize students involved in serving their communities while thriving to succeed academically. The award recipient will be publicly recognized on April 4, 2009 at Mu Chapters 10-Year Anniversary and Scholarship Banquet

Eligibility Requirements

Applicant must be a citizen or legal resident of the United States of America
Applicant must be a senior in high school graduating by June 2009.
Applicant must be enrolled full-time in a college or university program in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Applicant must have a high school academic average of 80 or better (2.7 on a 4.0 scale)
Applicant must be involved in community service activities and demonstrate their commitment to their community.
Applicant must sign the completed application and have a parent/guardian sign (if applicant is under the age of 18).
Applicant must submit a high school transcript with the completed application.
Applications will be considered on the basis of scholastic performance (GPA, SAT and/or ACT) and community involvement (activities in school and community).

AMOUNT

The scholarship award is $500 and will be disbursed in one installment to the schools Bursar Office.

Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated (OPBSI)was founded on March 15, 1989 at the University at Albany, State University of New York. It was there that Seventeen dedicated women of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds came together to create an outlet for women to initiate change. The foundation was built to fight against the injustices historically suffered by our gender. OPBSI's national philanthropy is Raising Awareness of Violence Against Women.
Mu Chapter was established on May 1st, 1999 in Buffalo, New York by four determinedwomen from the University at Buffalo and Buffalo State College. In the Spring 2008, D'Youville College became part of the Mu family,enablingOPBSIto become one of thelargest sororities in Buffalo.
After its foundation, "Educating the Buffalo Youth" became Mu Chapter's cause and presently remains to be the focus of community outreach initiatives as well as educational programming in academia.
