MPI Media Group presents MR. NICE, opening July 1, 2011 at Landmark’s Lumiere Theatres in San Francisco, and Landmark’s Shattuck Cinemas in Berkeley.

MR. NICE is the remarkable true story of a legendary pothead and polymath. 43 aliases, 4 kids, 89 phone lines, 25 companies worldwide and over one million books sold. Among his associates are members of the Mafia, CIA, IRA and MI6. Nuclear physicist, marijuana connoisseur, school teacher, money launderer, gentleman, fugitive and spy; raconteur, travel agent, writer, philosopher of science, rock promoter, public speaker, board game appreciator and the biggest dope smuggler on the planet... Meet Howard Marks, aka Mr. Nice (a terrific performance by Rhys Ifans, (Notting Hill, Danny Deckchair, The Boat That Rocked). From a small town in South Wales to Oxford University, Germany, London, Ireland, Pakistan, Amsterdam, Thailand, Ibiza, Majorca, Manila, America and jail we follow Howard’s prodigious rise. And fall. David Thewlis (Naked, Harry Potter, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) is hysterically funny as a berserk IRA terrorist, Howard’s smuggling partner. An incredible story, frequently hilarious, occasionally sad, and often surreal. Co-starring Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry), Luis Tosar (Even the Rain), Omid Djalili (The Love Guru, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End) and Crispin Glover. Written and directed by Bernard Rose (Immortal Beloved, Paperhouse).
