After opening with a delicate contemporary Japanese soundscape, two stars from the New York Philharmonic reunite in Santa Barbara for Mozart’s masterful Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola. The evening culminates with one of the finest romantic orchestral works, the famous “Scottish” Symphony by Mendelssohn, said to be inspired by the composer’s evening twilight visit to the haunted ruins of a chapel in Edinburgh.
