Wayne State has hosted the MovingMedia Student Film Festival for several years, focusing primarily on work produced by WSU students. This year's festival runs May 22-24. Given the re-emergence of the film industry in Michigan, we've opened up our festival to students throughout the region. Madonna University, University of Windsor, Eastern Michigan University, Lawrence Technological University and the College for Creative Studies were invited to participate; entering up to 3 works in each of 5 categories: documentary, narrative, animation, music and experimental film. Regional experts working in the film industry and/or academia will adjudicate the submissions.

The MovingMedia Student Film Festival 2009 runs May 22-24 (submissions are due May 8).

There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 22 at the Schaver Recital Hall starting at 6:30 with a keynote address by Jeffrey D. Spilman, managing partner for S3 Entertainment Group and a short screening of selected work with a reception immediately following in the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery.

On Saturday May 23 there will be three different award ceremonies:
1:30-3PM - WSU, COMM 1600 Student Film Showcase
4-5:30PM - Experimental and Animation
7-10PM - Narrative, Music Video and Documentary.
The awards ceremonies will be held in room 150 of the General Lectures building.

Another exciting element added this year is the 48-Hour Shoot-N-Show Challenge.
Participating teams will have 48 hours to create a short film. The award ceremony for the Shoot-N-Show will be held on Sunday, May 24th at 3PM in room 150 of the General Lectures Building.

All events are free and open to the public.
