The public is invited to join us for a classic film set in Southern Indiana and starring Gary Cooper and Dorothy McGuire. This 1956 movie based on Jessamyn West’s beloved book; A Friendly Persuasion earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
For two years the Civil War has been elsewhere. Now, Confederate forces are nearby, looting and burning. It is time to fight back, Jess Birdwell’s (Cooper) neighbors tell him. Yet Birdwell, a Quaker, knows there must be a better way to settle things.
Pendleton Library’s Underground Railroad Committee will be the hosts and hostesses for this free event. They will pop the popcorn and provide soft drinks.
The movie will be shown on Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Pendleton Community Library, 595 East Water Street. RSVPs are appreciated. Call the library at (765) 778-7527 or email ashannon.pendleton.lib.in.us.
