MOVIE OF NOVEMBER: Four days of September November 19, 2006

Nossas tardes de cinema têm sido um grande sucesso! Pessoalmente é meu evento favorito e se depender de mim acontecerá todo mês. Para Novembro escolhi "O que é isso companheiro?", um filme baseado em fatos reais - o sequestro do embaixador americano por um grupo guerrilheiro de esquerda durante a ditadura.
O filme tem legendas em inglês e todos são mais que bem-vindos a participar. Como nos eventos anteriores, conversaremos em português; dessa vez sobre a história política brasileira daquela época.
Novamente teremos pipoca, pão-de-queijo, pão-de-mel e guaraná. Como está esfriando, dessa vez teremos também cafezinho brasileiro. Para manter esse "banquete" brasileiro, a taxa de $8 será cobrada mais uma vez.
Não percam nossos filmes, é uma oportunidade de praticar a audição, expor-se a diferentes pronúncias da língua portuguesa, comer um pouco da nossa comida e - mais importante - falar português antes e depois do filme!

Our movie events have been being a big succes. Personally it is my favorite event and I will do everything I can to keep it happening every month. For November I chose "Four Days in September", a movie based on a true story - the kidnapping of the American embassador by a leftist guerrilla group during the dictadorship.
The movie has subtitles in English and everyone is more than welcome to join. Like the previous events, we will talk in Portuguese; this time about the Brazilian political history of that time.
Again we will have popcorn, cheesebread, honeybread and guaraná. Since it is getting colder, this time we will also have Brazilian coffee. In order to keep this "Brazilian feast", the $8 fee will be charged again.
Don't miss our movies, it is an opportunity to practice listening, expose yourself to different accents of Portuguese language, eat some of our food and - most important - speak Portuguese before and after the movie!

More about the movie:
Based on a true story, this is the moving account of the September, 1969, kidnapping of the American ambassador to Brazil (played by Alan Arkin). A group of young idealists plans the terrorist act -- their only perceived means of voicing their dreams and visions in a military regime. The film delves candidly into their lives and emotions as they begin to question both the depth of their allegiance to the group and the motives of their comrades.
