Dear friends,

After our successful first afternoon of cinema, it is time to watch BLACH ORPHEUS, a classic of Brazilian cinema. We will be watching the original version, from 1959, but that also has English subtitles. It will be again at Casa Italiana - they bought new speakers, so we don't don't have to worry about being in silence for a few minutes this time! The $8 fee will be charged again, but this time I will try to bring pão-de-queijo besides guaraná, popcorn and snacks.

A little info on the movie:
This superb retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice Greek legend is set against Rio de Janeiro's madness during Carnival. Orpheus (Breno Mello), a trolley car conductor, is engaged to Mira (Lourdes de Oliveira) but in love with Eurydice (Marpessa Dawn). A vengeful Mira and Eurydice's ex-lover, costumed as Death, pursue Orpheus and his new paramour through the feverish Carnival night. Black Orpheus earned an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
