Alexei Lubimov appears in a rare Los Angeles recital. Don't miss one of our great pianists.

At once elegantly simple and deeply weird, Erik Satie’s music for a mystery play, “The Son of the Stars,” offers a lens through which to rediscover a bunch of Debussy preludes and some haunting pieces by the young John Cage. Alexei Lubimov, who gave an extraordinary concert here two seasons back, has won huge acclaim for the pure fire of his recent recordings of Debussy and Cage, and for his mesmerizing Satie performances. He is joined by outstanding local musicians in a magical piece, very much in the Satie tradition, by Alexandre Rabinovitch-Barakovsky, perhaps better known as a performing partner of Martha Argerich.
