A Tribute to Dorrance Stalvey
A Special Benefit for Monday Evening Concerts

Luciano Berio: Circles
Dorrance Stalvey: Stream (L.A. premiere)
Gerard Grisey: Vortex Temporum (L.A. premiere)

MEC begins its season on Monday, December 11, 2006 at REDCAT with a tribute to long-time director DORRANCE STALVEY, who passed away in 2005. Luciano Berio's Circles will be performed by harpist LOU ANNE NEILL (who played the work for Dorrance at MEC in 1974), percussionists ROSS KARRE and STEVE SCHICK (famous for his one-man festival of percussion music at MEC), and up-and-coming Italian singer CRISTINA ZAVALLONI, who made a smash at last year's Minimalist Jukebox Festival. Dorrance's final completed work, Stream, will be performed for the first time in Los Angeles by violinist TARAS KRYSA and composer/pianist VIRKO BALEY. Hear the LA premiere of Gerard Grisey's Vortex Temporum, a spectral masterpiece featuring a wild cadenza for de-tuned piano.
