Since 2004, NYCCAH has commemorated Dr. King’s birthday with the MLK Serve-a-Thons, which provide hard-pressed food pantries and soup kitchens with much needed help from hundreds of New Yorkers willing to ‘take a day on, not a day off.’

The 7th Annual Martin Luther King Day Serve-a-Thon is a three day volunteer event that the New York City Coalition Against Hunger organizes on MLK Day Weekend to commemorate King’s anti-poverty legacy and bring New Yorkers together to fight hunger in the community.

It’s similar to a walk-a-thon, but instead of walking, volunteers perform services to help the network of 1,200 city-wide food pantries & soup kitchens meet their immediate and long-term needs. Just as friends, families, and co-workers sponsors a walker, the Serve-a-Thon asks volunteers to recruit those you know to both participate with you and pledge money towards anti-hunger service projects.
